Having a good brand is essential for today’s marketplace. With so many voices, you need to have a really good idea of who you are and what you’re offering. After a while, our brands can feel a little old and we might think about rebranding
First off, rebranding is about clearing away what doesn’t work in our business to create a business foundation that helps you connect with your chosen audience(s) in a new or better way, but how do you know it’s time to rebrand? Here are 5 popular reasons businesses seek to rebrand.
Reason #1- Your business model and position in the market are outdated.
Why This is Important: You have a legacy, but the way you sell it or how you speak about it has stopped resonating and you find your sales slipping a little. If you think of your business and marketing materials in the same way you think of your clothing, the idea of being modern and making changes in your business starts to make a lot more sense. Here’s an example: You wouldn’t wear a powder blue leisure suit or a shoulder-padded to the hilt 1980s power suit to a meeting with an important client because you want to look current and be taken seriously.
Reason #2- You changed your target market or the market changed around you!
Why This is Important: I get it we’re all out here trying our best and sometimes we need to change what we sell or who we sell to. Other times, especially lately, we slowly notice that the market for our once super popular business isn’t really there anymore and so we had to make big changes. Either way, the “voice” your content and business use need to shift with your audience, and sometimes it’s a little hard to find that voice. That’s where I can help! I help businesses clean things up and find their new and improved voice and look. I also share an action plan on how to use it all, so they can keep doing what they do best.
Reasons #3 – Current marketing items are not cohesive
Why This is Important: Change is good unless you’ve pivoted more times than a Prima Ballerina during rehearsals. Then people get confused about who you are and what you sell. Confused people don’t buy. Your message needs to be on point and a great way to signal that your message is on point and get recognized faster is with cohesive visuals that look and feel like your voice. People should be able to figure out your marketing piece belongs to your company in 30 to 60 seconds (or less). Here’s a dirty secret about many people (not all people, but a lot) – we don’t read. We use visual clues to help us figure things out.
Reason #4– Your technology is out of date.
Why This is Important: You need to be where your customers are and do business the way it makes sense for you and for them. While I love analog and old school tech from the early 00s, not everyone does and as hard as it can be to learn new things, especially tech things, you should really consider doing this. I’m not saying be trendy (unless that’s your brand voice) but you need to be up to date. Yes, even if your customers are super old school, you need to keep up with what they expect and what is currently out there. Take a look at what software, visuals, or systems might need an improvement including all of your signage and marketing materials! If your customers think of you as something of the past, you risk having a business that could be history. If you haven’t invested in the business in a long time, it might be time to reinvent yourself in a new way– one that will continue to attract the attention of your customers.
Reason #5– You don’t stand out from your competition
Why This is Important: If you don’t stand out from your competition then you’re missing out. You’re missing out on good customers who you love to work with and you’re leaving money on the table. Remember, a lot of people don’t read, they trust visual clues to let them know what is going on and that means you have a really short amount of time, I mean seconds, to sound and look different than everyone else. Your uniqueness will get you noticed and that’s a good thing!
Rebranding can be scary, but it can also be liberating and great for you and your business.
