A tagline is a great tool to help people remember your business. These are short phrases that help share your business’s reputation and personality. Most of us can recite the catchiest ones and they stick with us long after the business is gone.
If you’ve been reading my blogs for any length of time or you know me even a little bit you know I have a thing for creating catchy acronyms. Here’s another one for you: M.E.L.T.
as in — A great tagline will “M.E.L.T.” into your customers’ memories
Mission-Driven – this is the central essence of your business, it details who you are, what you sell, and how you’re different than your competition. This is the foundation for every good tagline!
Easy to Remember – It has to be easy for you and your customers to remember. You want them reciting it whenever your business name comes up.
Likable – self-explanatory, but it needs to be something people will like and that you will like too!
True to the Brand’s Personality – It needs to sound like your brand’s voice and fit in with the rest of how your business presents itself to its clients.
Here are a few tips if you want to try writing your own!
Start with your mission statement. If you don’t have one, then put some time into writing one.
Next, refine it down to one or two sentences. You want it to be brief, but not so brief that it doesn’t talk about what you do.
If it still sounds clunky or hard to say after that, then refine it down again or swap out words for other words that mean the same thing.
Don’t worry if rhymes or not, it just has to sound good and be fun to say!
Alright, there you have it! Some quick basics to help you write the best tagline possible for your business! A great tagline will help your business get remembered and when your potential clients remember you, they hire you and refer you more often!
