I design a lot of brochures. They’re a great marketing tool to have in your toolkit. Unfortunately, I think they’re a little misunderstood. People generally don’t know how many types of brochures there are available. That’s why I want to discuss them today!
When I say “brochure” it creates a certain image in most minds. They think of an 8.5-inch x 11-inch sheet of paper folded in thirds with information on each of the six panels. It’s true that a brochure can be a piece of paper folded in different ways like the Tri-Fold described above, but the word can also refer to small booklets too.
Here are a few common styles of brochures:
Tri-Fold and Bi-Fold: These are the ones people are most accustomed to viewing. The page is printed on both sides with the same number of panels and then folded with the panels one on top of the other. If folded in half it’s a bi-fold and if it’s folded in thirds, it’s a tri-fold.
Z-Fold: The page is printed on both sides with the same number of panels and is folded in a zig-zag or Z shape
Roll Fold: The page is printed on both sides with the same number of panels are folded from one side to the other with each panel immediately laying on the one immediately ahead of it i.e. 4 on top of 3, etc. When standing brochure appears rolled in on itself.
Gate Fold: panels at the edges are half the size of the center panels with the two sides folded to meet in the middle giving the impression of a gate.
Booklet: Can be 8 pages or more, looks like a book. Pages can be glued or stapled together.
The next time you need to share a lot of information with your potential client or investor, especially if they don’t know about your business or haven’t seen your website yet consider a brochure! These little powerhouses do a great job of replacing or supporting a website site and sharing relevant information that could help you close a great new opportunity!
