Consistency. The art of doing the same thing in the same way again and again. You might have heard it is super important for businesses to be consistent in doing things. The same goes for their marketing graphics or content visuals, which at first glance might sound a tad on the boring side. The question is why would you want things to look and feel the same every single time.
Here are 3 reasons why consistency matters in visual content:
Builds Trust: When customers can predict behaviors and quality, they are more likely to trust you. One of the ways to create this consistency and build trust is through your marketing visuals. If your marketing materials look and feel the same and have a consistent message people will start to assume the product or service is also consistent and give it a try.
Makes You Memorable: When you do things in a consistent way, people internalize your message and your marketing materials’ look and feel. This causes you to be memorable. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – when people remember you, they buy from you. They also refer you.
Gives You More Sales: With consistency making your business memorable and helping you earn their trust; people are more likely to give your business a try over your competition. When you factor in a great consistent service or product and customer service people will continue to come back again and again and tell all their friends thus increasing the number of sales you have.
Here’s a fun story about me to show you how it works: I started wearing Purple (in honor of Purple Rose Graphics) to all of my networking events. After a couple of months of this, people started to recognize me. They knew I’d be there in purple, which made me easier to point out for referrals and after a little while longer any time they saw something purple -or even a rose – they thought of me and called me. Ultimately, we’d chat and, quite often, I’d have a new project to work on by the end of our phone call. When I did everything, I said I would do and provided a consistent service with a consistent outcome they kept coming back and told their friends. Why? because I was consistent in everything they saw, heard, and experienced. Same general colors, layout, and images, Same message of what I do and how I can help them, and same great service and outcome. It made me easier to remember and easier to describe to their friends.
It’s not just me either, when one of my clients did the same and became extremely consistent in what they said, the visuals they shared, what they did and provided to clients, and their sales skyrocketed.
While it may feel boring to you to be consistent in how you do things in your business, it builds comfort and trust for your customers. This ultimately helps you sell more and stress less.
